Simone Carlysle-Smith

Project Manager, Research, Strategy, Marketing, Client and Team Liaison

Team lead of Carlysle & Co., Simone has over 30 years experience in project management and marketing. For the last 20 years she has specialized in rural community tourism in British Columbia and has worked with over 50 communities in her career.

Key areas of expertise include project management, consumer research program development and data analysis, strategic planning, destination marketing and team lead for client / team coordination. Simone is a specialist in the Destination BC Cooperative Marketing Partnerships Program, the Province of BC Municipal Regional District Tax program and Environics Analytics Research. Simone has worked at the community, regional and provincial level in destination marketing and management in BC for over 20 years.

Simone loves to be out in nature, riding the rail trails, staying connected through yoga, and she is a blues fan who has travelled North America to take in as many live artist shows and cultural experiences as possible.

Steve Nicol

Strategic Planning, Economic Development, Economic Analysis, Feasibility and Business Planning

Steve has been consulting for 35 years with hundreds of projects covering destination development plans, strategic plans, marketing studies, economic studies, business plans and feasibility analyses. 

Steve Nicol is the principle of Lions Gate Consulting Inc., a Vancouver-based independent consultancy specializing in economics and economic development services. He holds a Masters of Business Administration (UBC) and is a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) with the Canadian Association of Management Consultants. He is a long-time member of the International Association for Impact Assessment. 

Married with three adult children, when not at work Steve is an avid cyclist and gardener, weekend warrior in the kitchen and collector of old time radio plays. He also has a passion for reading with a long-time interest in medieval history. 

Lori Sly, BComm, MBA, CMMP - Principal Consultant

Principal Consultant

As the Principal of Destinate Group, Lori brings a well-rounded perspective, stemming from her executive background in travel and tourism. She has 14 years of experience in stakeholder engagement, executive management, marketing, and strategy development. Lori currently consults for a variety of tourism development and airport development projects.

Prior to her consulting career, Lori was the Vice President of Business Development and Service Quality for Skyxe Saskatoon Airport, and the Director of Communications for Regina International Airport. Lori has led numerous air service development, economic development and tourism initiatives at the provincial level and was responsible for Skyxe Saskatoon Airport’s hospitality program.

Lori is an accredited consultant in Biosphere Tourism certification, a global standard in sustainable tourism, and is recently achieved her Chartered Certified Marketing Management Professional (CMMP®) designation, the highest level of international marketing certification. She holds an MBA and Bachelors of Commerce from the Edwards School of Business.

Angela Nagy

Angela Nagy, GreenStep Solutions

GreenStep Sustainable Tourism provides assessments, programs, and certifications to help tourism destinations and businesses measure and improve their sustainability performance. Angela Nagy is the CEO of GreenStep Solutions, a company that has provided sustainability strategies and programs for thousands of small and medium sized enterprises since 2008. Through their Sustainable Tourism division, Angela and her team provide solutions that help tourism destinations and businesses to improve their sustainability performance, including sustainability strategy development, assessment, certifications, eco-funding, consulting, training programs and carbon footprint measurement.

Angela has been trained by former Vice President and Nobel Laureate, Al Gore, David Suzuki and IPCC scientists to deliver the Climate Reality Project and is certified in Organizational GHG Accounting through the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute, and as a Sustainability Practitioner through the Natural Step. Her experience also includes politics, and Angela has served as an elected official at both the municipal and regional levels, elected on a platform of sustainability.

GreenStep is the only North-American based provider of GSTC-recognized standards for Destinations.

Katt Stearns

Consulting, Social Media, Workshops & Keynotes

Katt Stearns is a digital specialist, speaker, trainer and consultant for organizations, business owners and entrepreneurs that want to make sense of social media and digital marketing. She specializes in helping them focus on their primary platforms, tools and strategies to grow their online business in a manner that educates, empowers, entertains and engages audiences.

Katt has worked with numerous organizations including Destination BC, numerous DMOs, Thompson Rivers University, Fortis BC, BC Hydro and is the recipient of the Canadian Digital Marketer of the Year Award. She conducted digital audits for Destination BC to support community DMOs and is currently teaching for Destination BC as part of their Tourism Digital Academy as an instructor for Content Marketing and Digital Advertising. She also works with the Destination BC Visitor Centre Network.

Katt has a passion for sustainability and is creating specialized content for sustainably focused organizations and is launching a local non-profit, Green the Valley.

Roger Handling

Roger Handling

Creative Director

Roger has over 30 years experience and specializes in graphic design and creative direction for the tourism sector. Services include design and production management for digital and traditional media. Expertise includes destination branding, comprehensive websites, digital ad campaigns, social media tools, art direction for video production, visitor guides, maps and signage.

Terra Firma Digital Arts was established by Roger Handling, an award-winning designer in the field of communications. Roger graduated from Queens University, Kingston, with an Honours BA in History and Fine Arts and also completed programs at the Banff Centre School of Fine Arts and the Ontario College of Art and Design. Prior to moving to BC, he worked as the art director for a corporate communications firm in Toronto specializing in visual identity and annual report design.

Roger is a dedicated plein air painter and has travelled to New Zealand, the Maldives, Hawaii, Iceland and South Africa in search of new and interesting subject matter. Roger is also an avid trail/mountain runner who takes advantage of living at the edge of many kilometres of forest trails on the Sunshine Coast . He competes regularly as an age group winner and has attended the World Mountain Running Championships several times.

Darren spends as much time in nature as possible; finding hidden waterfalls or searching for new expansive vistas. Paddleboarding, biking, hiking and camping are among his favourite passions, especially when experienced with his beautiful wife and two amazing daughters.
